In a Funk?

Updated: Feb 23, 2019

Seasonal depression is among us. Or, if you're a person with depression, it's autumn. Lately, I've been exceptionally happy. Some days more than others, but you can't win them all (a mentality I've adapted). My bad days are not nearly as terrible as they used to be, but man, they are a bummer. I have a little plan of attack for my bad days, and I feel like other people could benefit from my tactics.

1) Go to the gym

Although easier said than done, going to the gym really uplifts my spirits. It's one of those things that I dread going to but I'm in love with once I'm there. Dedicating a chunk of my day to focus on my mental health makes me feel so liberated! Listening to my favorite playlist and decompressing are some of my favorite things to do.

2) Read a book

Reading a book allows me to dissociate from my problem and relax. And after I'm finished reading, I feel as though I can get a new perspective on my issue.

3) Have a snack

I think we've all succumbed to hangriness at sometime in our lives. I am especially prone to this, so if I'm feeling depressed I am sure to grab a quick snack! At the end of the day, it doesn't hurt!

4) Watch a YouTube video

I think some Jenna Marbles or Brandi TV would brighten anyone's bad day. A quick uplifting video can really do the trick sometimes.

5) Take a nap

When all else fails, go to bed. I'm not sure what famous philosopher said that (none of them did), but they were right! Sometimes you just need to disconnect from the world on all levels and have some good 'ole me time.

No matter what's keeping you down, never forget the importance of self care! We live in a fast-paced and hardworking nation (which is incredible), but it tends to get us down and exhausted. Take time for you and your mental health!
